| The WMF is a global association of people, organizations and institutions interested in interpersonal, intergroup, community, transcultural and international mediation. It is committed to the use of mediation and other appropriate collaborative conflict management processes wherever conflicts threaten the well being of individuals, organizations, communities, and local, state or national governments. The WMF is committed to the exchange of information related to mediation on its website and at a congress to be convened bi-annually.
The WMF was created in Dublin, Ireland in 1993 as the result of the First International Conference on Mediation and it was formally constituted at the Assembly celebrated at the First WMF Congress at El Escorial, Spain in 1995. Subsequent congresses were convened in Havana, Cuba in 1998 and Sardinia, Italy in 2000.
